Cardboard Gold is a two time, Inc. 500 company having been honored in both 1991 (#208) and 1992 (#74) as one of America's Fastest Growing Private Companies. However, we remain a family owned company by the original founder, Jack Mayes, since 1985.
What started as a part time mail order sports card business, run out of a dorm room at the University of California, Irvine has transformed into the #1 brand of trading card holders. We still have many of the same customers that we had in the 80's and 90's. Our Top-Loaders, Card Savers, and Soft Sleeves continue to be made at the same factory in China with the same Taiwanese family owners since 1988!
Our customer list is a Who's Who of the trading card industry. We sell to brick and mortar stores, show dealers, and every major auction house including eBay, SCP, Goldin, Memory Lane, Robert Edward, Huggins & Scott, and Lelands, just to name a few! Greg Morris, Dave & Adam's, George Kruk, and Kevin Savage are long time customers! We have supplied PSA/PSA-DNA with a variety of card holders (including the famous Card Saver 1) since they started grading cards in 1991. Sports Card Guaranty (SGC) is a huge customer. So is CGC!

In 2020, the family business became a much bigger "family" business. All four Mayes girls (Alana, Caitlyn, Kiley, and Keira) are now involved in all facets of the business. They are all passionate Pokemon & sports card collectors and serious sports fans! The three oldest are all attorneys or in law school. Keira, the youngest, is a proud Oregon Duck!
WE SELL DIRECT! Our sales model has not changed in 41 years. Our quantity discount prices are comparable to other brands master distributor prices. And NO ONE beats our consistent quality! We literally DO NOT advertise - we rely on word of mouth and organic Google search. We do NOT pay influencers or rely on social media. That would be a total waste of our customer's money!
